3 Bedroom, 2 Bath Authentic Log Cabin With Mountain Views Across From Ski Area

If ever you dreamed of spending time at a mountain retreat in a log cabin with 24' ceilings, a central log beam as big as all outdoors and a décor that has you feel the character of Colorado, this home will warm your heart. No wonder this house was featured in Durango Living magazine. From the Amish hand-crafted four poster red hickory bed in the huge, secluded loft master bedroom, the Talavera sinks and mirrors in the 2 bathrooms, the copper-fronted island in the kitchen, the miners lamps over the island, the bentwood rockers, the silver full-length free-standing mirror in the guest room and the many Native American and Western artifacts, this home says "Come, unpack, relax, unwind and immerse yourself in letting the world behi

Imagine sitting on the wrap-around deck in the morning in front of a fire with your coffee and muffins watching the early morning sun awaken the Aspens and Ponderosa Pines or soaking up the last rays of the warm Colorado sun as you enjoy the sunset. The covered side deck is perfect for reading in the hammock chairs if there should be a softly falling rain. There are rustic benches in the area high up behind the house that provide the perfect place to breathe deeply the unmatchable Colorado air, listen to the stillness and consider life in all its intricacies. So many places to find peace.

The upstairs master bedroom is enormous with a seating/game table area as well as an Airdyne exercycle and at least a hundred fine books to snuggle down with and inspirational tapes as well. The daybed/trundle bed in the sitting area in the loft backed by windows is a wonderful place to read or nap while you watch the snowflakes fall. The master bathroom offers a 2-person shower and both bathrooms have separate areas for toileting and privacy. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs, one a bunkroom and one a guest room with an iron queen-sized bed and private entrance to the downstairs bathroom.

Every room exudes atmosphere with its 8" log walls. The kitchen is fully equipped with all you could need to cook or bake anything you might feel like making. There is a convenient ski/mud room to store your gear and comfortably get outfitted for the day, as well as a washer/dryer for use as desired. The floors are whiskey barrel hardwood and clay tile to echo the Southwest mountain feel. The living room/dining room greatroom opens onto the deck with the stone fireplace centrally located in the floor to ceiling log and window wall. A TV, DVD and VCR are nestled in a Spanish-style armoire that houses games and cards as well. The slate and iron coffee table provides another place to gather and enjoy each other.

One VERY important note - if you are visiting in the snow season (could be as early as Oct. and as late as May!) you MUST have a 4-wheel drive vehicle and winter tires or chains with street tires to make it up the beautiful Lake Purgatory Drive. This will save you and your new neighbor/friends a lot of frustration and save you the fee for being rescued. Better to save that money for buying margarita fixin's!

Exceptional! 5/5

Charming Mountain Log Cabin Home

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our summer week in this stylish and comfortable mountain home. Inside and outside, it's fresh and tasteful with furnishings appropriate to the Rockies. And the kitchen is generous and well equipped. The large wrap-around porch, with its lovely view, was a highlight, whether rocking by the firepit with chilly morning coffee or evening cocktails. Location 's good, also. Close enough to Durango and Purgatory for easy dining, shopping, etc (try tubing on the Animus river or off-roading), but remote enough to know you're in the boonies. Arranging the stay was smooth and pleasant. All in all--a fine vacation. We will definitely return and highly recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: Your reflections on your stay at our house are exactly the way we have always hoped people would enjoy themselves here. We look forward to having you come again for even more fun and relaxation.

Nature's Retreat

We spent our first trip to Colorado with friends and enjoyed a wonderful week in this lovely welcoming home which has everything you could need in such a comfortable, spacious, warm and cozy atmosphere. Autumn in Durango had the most spectacular views of golden aspens everywhere whether you're hiking or driving around to enjoy the beauty of nature and its picturesque views of the mountains. Whatever day trips you do, you'll truly enjoy coming home to relax on the deck gazing at the stars or sitting in front of the fireplace on a cool evening!

Owner's Response: Aspen season, like every season, is wonderful in Colorado. One trip to Durango usually grabs everyone's heart. Come again.

Love Heaven's Gate

From the moment you drive up, you see the giant windows that look out onto the mountains. It is an extremely warm home that allows the stress to melt away. From the fully-equipped kitchen to the comfortable bedrooms, this place is perfect for a family. My kids especially loved the giant wrap-around porch. I highly recommend that anyone with young kids look to stay here.

Lastly, it is the perfect location with extremely close access to the ski-resort with countless trails and hike all within a short drive. Don't miss this wonderful place.

Owner's Response: As always, people enjoying the beauty and the peace warm my heart. As the doormat says – unpack, relax, unwind.

A taste of heaven at Heaven's Gate

This is clearly a well loved home in tune to the rhythms of the day and the Colorado splendors. It provides a welcoming atmosphere inside and out. The western style art and furnishings complement the gorgeous views from both the windows and generous deck. From the well-equipped kitchen to comfortable beds, this is a stress relieving home. There are many opportunities for high adventure and refreshing hiking on day trips or locally, but always the lovely return to a peaceful evening sunset or stargazing from the deck. Heaven's Gate provides an excellent respite for friend or family groups.

Definitely found my "Happy Place" in the Mountains

This was our first visit to Colorado and I can't imagine a more relaxing place to stay. The cabin is so charming and comfortable, even on a rainy afternoon you don't mind "having" to relax on the covered deck reading in a hammock chair with a cup of tea. My husband and I stayed in the guest room on the main floor and our friends stayed upstairs in the master bedroom. Very comfortable bedding and bath accommodations for everyone. Even bunk beds ! During the day we visited surrounding towns, shopped and ate. We even went fly fishing with a local. What a treat! Loved the nearby stream for tubing adventure and hiking.

The kitchen was well- equipped with everything we needed for family meals and breakfast on the deck was great with a fire in the pit. Although we visited for the Fourth of July, it never seemed touristy and the locals were welcoming. After a busy day we were always glad to return to our log cabin and watch the sky darken by the fire on the deck, wrapped in a cozy blanket. Although we aren't skiers, I can only imagine how cozy this lovely place would be under a blanket of snow. The owner was easy to work with and seemed to know what we would need to have a wonderful get-away with friends.

Definitely found my "Happy Place" !

Owner's Response: We are always thrilled to have our guests thrilled and happy! Thank you for your wonderful review and please return and have more fun.
