Santa Barbara, California

Breathtaking views of ocean, islands, mountains and city from this magical three-story redwood home at the end of a cul-de-sac on 1.38 acres! Walls of glass & 4 decks let you enjoy the spectacular views from sunrise to sunset. Offering privacy in a tranquil mountain setting both dramatic and romantic, this 2,400 sq ft. Home is filled with light. Soaring 25’ wood ceilings, an open floor plan, faux walls by vivencio, wooden floors, hand-painted tiles and a balinese fireplace mantel are a few extras that make this home unique. This is the home of an artist and writer and is elegantly furnished with art from around the world. Here is an opportunity to stay on top of the world, only 20 minutes from state street, 25 minutes to the beach and 30 minutes to the famed santa ynez wine country. Quail, wild pigeons, soaring hawks and hummingbirds make this home a bird watcher’s paradise. Surrounding roads are a mecca for hiking and bicycling. This area was sacred to the chumash indians. The california state monument, the chumash cave known as 'painted cave' famous for its petroglyphs, was once owned by my husband's family and is a short walk away. Fishing, boating and nature cruises are available at cachuma lake, 20 minutes to the east. Santa ynez is wine tasting country and only 30 minutes away. Nearby historic cold springs tavern offers excellent cuisine and sunday afternoon concerts.
Note: the top level of the home, a loft open to the floors below, has a double futon and can function as a third bedroom. The second bedroom has a double bed and the master bedroom has two twin beds. The homeowners live in a separate apartment with a private entrance on the property--Homestay housing. You won’t know they are there unless you need them. We will be available always by phone or email and generally in person; however, we respect the privacy of guests and will be invisible unless otherwise desired. I am happy to extend check-in and check-out times if there are no other guests booked for the dates you request.

Gorgeous view, accommodating homeowners, house was very unique and had everything we needed! Truly incredible view! Kelly B,
I agree with all the reviewers that this place is a gem. It's perched high above Santa Barbara where you can have a 180 degree sweeping view of mountain, ocean, island, and wildlife! Every balcony we stood in was breathtaking. My husband and I are homebodies who like to travel (ironically) so this particular retreat suited us well. Josie and her husband made us feel comfortable and welcoming during our stay at their property. We couldn't ask for more accommodating owners. The best room in the house in my opinion is the room with a bookcase of almost 1,000 books! You can tell the owners really thrived on this property and the artifacts they accumulated from their travels show they are very cultured and spiritually inclined. The roads are somewhat narrow to get to this property but just drive slow and enjoy the scenic drive up. Bumped into a few neighbors while driving down and they were all very talkative and kind to us. We went in April so its a bit chilly up there at night so don't forget to bundle up but they do have central heating! The Painted Cave is walkable distance and was very cool to see a historic sight so close by. Emily K.
Peaceful, and words are a mere fluff when explaining the views and feeling of the space .... Louise N.
It was breath taking. Best view in all of Santa Barbara. The home is decorated with artifacts from all over the world. Josie, the owner was very accomodating to our needs, friendly and warm. We are definitely going back. It was one of our most favorite vacation rentals ever. Never stayed in a plce this breath taking. The view of the city, the Pacific, the mountains, the night lights....I could go on and on. Sunsets and sunrise everyday for the five mornings that we were there were incredible. I would definitely recommend to my friends. Surabbi T.
My management team and I chose this location for a one night retreat. Our hope was for a location that would allow for us to spread out, be close to nature, and work in comfort for a few days. We were not disappointed!
With a million dollar view, and several balconies to enjoy it from, this was a great location for some peace and quiet. The house had all of the comforts that we needed, was a feast for the eyes from a decor perspective, but was practical enough to allow us to cook our meals and enjoy some bonding time.
The owner had phenomenal communication along the way and was very friendly as we walked through the process.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Ashman, Tulare, CA
Owner's Response: Dear Ash, Thank you. It was a pleasure to have you. Best, Josie
